Horse Hoof Anatomy

 From: https://www.facebook.com/dawn.willoughby.505

This is a photo of a 3 D model from Horse Science, Allie Hayes. I have several of her models for teaching. Pls note that the coffin bone does NOT go to the back of the hoof capsule. The back portion is filled with well developed soft tissue in a well trimmed active barefoot. Contrary to what most of us were taught, heel height doesn't affect coffin bone. The CB is always under the horse, held firming by tendons. It doesn't rotate and navicular bones are innocent victims of sore back of hoof.
